Prepare to be inspired as Young Australian of the Year Jessica Watson OAM shares insight into what it took to sail solo and unassisted around the world at just 16 years of age.
The world’s youngest sailor to achieve this incredible feat, Jessica will share her experiences at sea during a special Q+A session with SCIBS ambassador and Channel 7 personality Paul Burt on The Boatyard stage at 10am this Friday.
The Gold Coast North Chamber of Commerce has announced Jessica Watson will also be the guest speaker for their special ‘Boat Show Breakfast’ on Friday from 7am to 9am at the Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club.
Defying criticism from those who said her task was destined to fail, after 210 days at sea navigating some of the world’s most challenging stretches of oceans and surviving seven knockdowns, Jessica sailed back into Sydney Harbour on May 15, 2010.
Jessica became one of the most recognised faces in Australia when she returned from her epic journey, which covered 23,000 nautical miles.
She went on an international book tour for her novel True Spirit, skippered the youngest crew ever to compete in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, was awarded Young Australian of the Year in 2011, and was honoured with an OAM in 2012.
The Boat Show Breakfast is followed by complimentary entry into SCIBS. Tickets are $45 for members and $60 for non-members and are now on sale from goldcoastnorth.cciq.com.au
